project overview
Lead design role with Mpac Group to design a new Human Machine Interface (HMI) for their Horizon line of packaging machinery. The project focused on modernising how operators interact with complex machinery on the factory floor, creating an interface that could scale consistently across Mpac’s wider product range.

Challenges
Challenges
Operators faced long training times and confusing navigation, along with difficulty setting up new recipes and little guidance through recipe changeovers. Diagnosing the root cause of alarms was also a common struggle on typical HMIs, operators had to reference a manual to look up alarm codes rather than resolving issues directly on screen.

Simplified and refined the experience through a visually guided design approach. A monochromatic colour scheme shifts to red when an alarm is present, helping operators quickly identify the root cause and reduce downtime. Designed a no-code recipe creation flow so operators can set up new recipes without technical support, and a visual changeover sequence that guides them through a smoother transition between recipes.
